Finally

Where to start. It's hard to believe a month has passed since I have "blogged". I have been on the computer I have to admit to that, but then my scrabble games are required therapy!!!!!!!
Let's see now... just after Alix returned home, Barbara, David and I came down with a cold that stayed for about a week. Then Emma's car gave up the ghost. Sadly Emma needs a car to get to school and work (important re financing school) That meant "looking for another car for her and of course finding the "funds". Poor Emma she was on track again after having paid off her last vehicle and was well on her way to saving for Uni. Now she is having to make car payments again. She will have to sell the car in August because she can't afford to pay for Uni, pay for a car, maintain a car as well as feed herself etc. Anyone out there interested in a standard Elantra Hyundai 2001. Emma is a first timer re standards and she has managed beautifully. The car has a very forgiving clutch but this weather!!!!!!!!!!
Of course Murphys Law kicked in. Because Emma was using our van to get to school and work I borrowed Anna's Jimmy to pick up some milk etc. and true to "ML" I didn't shut the door properly and next morning Anna had a dead battery. To add insult to injury nothing we tried would get it started and so we had it towed to Pat's in Lancaster. Anna needed a new battery. But boy did Pat ever sock it to us. $300.00 and that didn't include the towing. Ouch.
So, now both girls are back on the road.

Anna has started her co-op at the bank and is enjoying it. Her first observation: tellers should get paid more than the managers because they do most of the work!!!!!
It looks like Emma is considering Mount A. They are offering the courses she wants (math is not one of them).

While all this auto business was going on we had recovered from our cold. I had gone to the Bewicks to turn the heat up in the house and vacuum and clean in prep for their return from Florida. While there the furnace "blew". It didn't actually blow up but the bang it made scared the bjeezes out of me. My first thought; turn it off, went to the thermostat and turned it all the way down, then made my way to the basement, opened the door and was met with what i thought at first was smoke but turned out to be steam, (hot water furnace) I made my way down the stairs to make sure there was no fire, then called the furnace man. That was Friday afternoon. By Sat noon he had it mended. That delayed my visit to Sarah. I had hoped to get away early morning.

So Sarah and I had a visit to Ottawa, checked out the "baby" stuff and had dinner. We got back to Smiths Falls about 8p.m. just as the snow was starting to fall. It took me 3 hours to drive home usually takes 1 1/2 hours. I was going to go last Saturday to paint the babies room but guess what; we had another snow storm.

In the mean time David's polychondritis had another flareup. It knocks the stuffing out of him. On top of that the new meds (methotrexate) which he takes every Fri leaves him feeling more than yukky the next day. There's more. David's gallstones, which have been silent, are not so any longer and he has been in pain yet again, and has spent the last 4 days either resting or in emerg. Yesterday he spent6 hours in emerg. He had an ultra sound and was poked and proded by two Docs and a surgeon, sent home with antibiotics and a strict diet. Surgery to remove the gallbaladder in about 4 weeks. When will it all end!

So you see the last month has been somewhat involved and I am not as young as I used to be and although we are coping well enough I find I am not able to accomplish as much in a day as I used to.

Barbara and I managed to get a day in town on Tues. We had great fun shopping for Easter goodies for the grandkids and we even managed to mail them the next day.

We are in the throes of yet another storm. " This one is supposed to be the grandaddy of them all. A possible 30 to 50 cm. It is the "Irish Night" tonight at St.Mary's Centre (fund raiser for the World Food Grain Bank). This includes Irish Stew, "booze"(which you have to buy, part of the fundraising) and a home grown play (written by Joan P. MacDonald). This year it's called "Bunkum". Sadly because of the storm we are not going to find out the antics the sister's of St. Bridgit's have got up to.

We have just had a piece of french bread straight out of the oven. I have to say it's the best I have ever made! And David had his without butter!! Now there is one for the records!

During the last two weeks we managed to get in season 1 and 2 of Rome thanks to Sarah and Joe who copied them for us. I am afraid we are going to have withdrawl symptoms. can't wait for season 3. Wow what a powerful series!
